Skiing in Gstaad: where beauty meets tradition

Skiing between luxury and down-to-earthness

In Gstaad, the term for going skiing is "ahifahre". This is Swiss German and means both "to ski down" and "to relax". And indeed, the renowned ski resort is all about pleasure skiing. The destination of Gstaad with its ten chalet villages is internationally recognised for its chic charm and discreet luxury.

The region has retained its original and down-to-earth character to this day: As well as style and class, tradition and pristine nature define the Swiss winter sports paradise. Guests can enjoy skiing on varied dream slopes away from mass tourism.

More information about the ski resort

Perfectly groomed, wide slopes full of variety are on the daily programme when skiing in Gstaad. Families are drawn to its local mountain, the Wispile. Carving fans will love the big turns with fantastic views of the surrounding Alpine landscape on the “Parwenge-Lengebrand” slope in the St. Stephan area. The steepest run, the “Tiger Run”, offers a challenge for racers on the “Wasserngrat” with a length of 2.5 kilometres.

The Red Run, one of the longest slopes in Europe, is located in the Glacier 3000 ski area, and two snow parks make freestylers' hearts beat faster. You see: In the ski resort around Gstaad, Schönried, Saanenmöser and Saanen, there is something for every winter sports enthusiast.

This is what the individual resorts in the interconnected Bernese Oberland ski region stand for:

  • Gstaad: the world-famous, traffic-free chalet village with access to three ski regions.
  • Saanen: the historic heart of the Saanenland near the Eggli - La Videmanette ski area.
  • Schönried: Sun terrace, the largest ski arena in the region with 105 kilometres of slopes and a cross-country skiing paradise with 18 kilometres of trails.
  • Saanenmöser: the sunny pass with direct access to 105 kilometres of ski slopes and a snow park
  • Rougemont: take the gondola directly from the village up to 2,100 metres, where you can either enjoy the alpine slopes or one of the longest (blue) valley runs in the region.

Elevate yourself in the Glacier 3000 glacier ski area

Thanks to its location at an altitude of up to 3,000 metres, you benefit from the guaranteed snow from November to May. This region is also the only glacier ski area in the Bernese Oberland. If you've never had the pleasure of skiing on a glacier before, you should grab your equipment and hit the slopes in front of a magnificent view. If you would like to explore this area, you can either do so with an additional ticket or you can purchase a multi-day ticket directly, which already includes the Glacier 3000 region.

If you’re looking for 'an adrenaline rush, the "Black Wall" is one of the steepest runs in Europe with a gradient of 45 %. Make sure you have the latest skiing models so that you can carve your turns into the Swiss glacier landscape with sharp edges.
